Our Values

At Glasgow Lindyhoppers, we believe everybody has the right to participate in our classes and events in a safe and comfortable way.

History

Swing Dancing was born in African American communities in the United States. Glasgow Lindyhoppers seeks to respect and honour this by celebrating and being mindful of the history of swing and jazz.

Swing dance continues to evolve across the globe and we are excited to be part of that development. We strive to remain respectful of the past and are committed to seeking new opportunities to listen, learn, and educate from pioneers of the black cultural art form that brings us such joy to practice.

Chance to Dance

We never want cost to be a barrier to participation. If you have been dancing for years or you're considering coming along for the first time but the cost of classes is prohibitive, speak to one of our Committee at class or get in touch with us by email. It is our promise that any conversations had or arrangements made about your finances will be handled discreetly.

Code of Conduct

Glasgow Lindyhoppers has signed up to the S.T.E.P.S. Code of Conduct and related procedures. The following guidelines apply to all team members, contractors and attendees of its events.

We aim to be a welcoming, supportive and friendly organisation.

We acknowledge that instances of inappropriate behaviour sometimes happen, and wish to deal with these appropriately. This document is designed to acknowledge that we all have a responsibility to build safety and inclusivity into events, and to contribute to the wellbeing of the whole community. We love to dance, and we want you to love it too!
